Let me start this post by saying, I am sadly reminiscing about one of my favorite destinations as I sit here in my college sweats, drinking hot tea on a Spring day that is 30 degrees!
I have been many places, but Portofino is one of my top favorites and today it sticks out the most to me, mostly because I am day dreaming about being there.
Summer of 2012 I was lucky enough to go on a Mediterranean Cruise with my family and one of the destinations was Genoa (a city in Northern Italy). Well lucky for my family and I there happened to be a boat that left from Genoa to the little picturesque town of Portofino. We of course had to take it!!!!
The day got even more luckier when we realized the boat made a pit stop at what I like to call one of the most beautiful places on Earth, San Fruttuoso. This place is literally a hidden gem! It can only be accessed by a challenging hiking trail or of course by boat. There are no roads that take you here, so you are really off the beaten path. I only spent at most an hour here but from the photos below I am sure you can imagine how I was feeling as I stepped off that boat. In Heaven!
After about an hour, the boat took us to Portofino. I recommend anyone who loves traveling and loves Italy, to at least go to Portofino once in their lifetime. It is definitely another world! It is known as a fishing village and an upscale resort for the rich and famous. As we entered the harbor all I could see was high class yachts all around me.
As you see in the picture above, yachts everywhere!!!! And the picture below shows how this town is also a “fishing village”, a beautiful one at that.
My mother was in Heaven that day, for the fact that her favorite singer Andrea Bocelli was performing a concert that night. So the day was also spent keeping an eye out for him.
We only had a short time here so most of the day consisted of trying to stalk Andrea Bocelli, walking around, looking in shops, and of course eating gelato!!!! Here are more pics to summarize the experience 🙂
